Theatre at school …or better still – in a Parish Church

This morning in the theatre of the Parish Church of Sacri Cuori Missioners at 10.00 a.m, the students of third classes of Tito Lucrezio Caro School took part in an extraordinary event.

Under the guide of the Director Roberto Giordano some actors played Irena Sendler’s story. She was a young Polish nurse who cooperated with Resistance during World War II.

Irena’s story was made known by some girls who studied in an American University who made some researches about her. As a result of their studies, they discovered that she saved 2500 Jewish children who lived in Warszaw Ghetto by finding them a refuge and by giving them false documents.

There are many touching moments in this drama, mostly when Irena has to persuade Jewish mother to entrust her with their children to save them from death. It’s a great example of goodness and courage that will stick in my memory for many reasons: its historical documentaries, its wonderful music and, most of all, its great message: “Good must always prevail on evil”.

Irena Sendler was born in Warszaw on February 15th 1910 and died on May 13th 2008.
